The Faster CPython Team at Microsoft is working toward increasing Pythons CPU performance with a 4-stage implementation plan proposed by Core Developer Mark Shannon. Microsoft established a team of 6 engineers to support him, including Pythons creator Guido van Rossum. Python 3.11 has already seen speedups of 10-60% in some areas. The team brings specialized knowledge and collaboration from different backgrounds, including classic computer hobbyists like L Pereira who gained insight in working on .NET and now focuses on Python. Their efforts aim to improve Python’s performance for performance-sensitive packages written in other languages, and increase its versatility as a language.
