Italy’s Privacy Watchdog Bans ChatGPT Over Data Breach Concerns

Italy’s Data Protection Authority has banned ChatGPT due to concerns about a recent data breach and the illegal use of personal data to train the chatbot. The move is a temporary measure “until ChatGPT respects privacy”. OpenAI, the San Francisco-based owner of ChatGPT, has disabled the platform in Italy and claims to comply with GDPR and other privacy laws. ChatGPT is an AI system used to generate plausible-sounding responses to questions and creating content like poems, essays, and summaries of lengthy documents when prompted by users. The Italian watchdog cited concerns about how the chatbot processed information and the massive amounts of personal data used to train the AI system.
