Prime Video Reduces Operational Cost by 90% by Re-Architecting Audio/Video Quality Inspection Solution

Amazons Prime Video streaming service shares how it reduced operational costs by 90% by re-architecting its audio/video quality inspection solution to address scalability issues by converting workload to EC2 and ECS compute services. The Video Quality Analysis (VQA) team created the original tool for inspecting audio/video streams and split the workload into microservices on serverless infrastructure with all data stored in AWS S3 buckets, but the architecture could only support 5% of expected loads. The team consolidated all business logic in a single application process, eliminating the need for the S3 bucket as an intermediary solution.
