Architecture is a game of constraint satisfaction

In my Architect Elevator workshops, I often reference one of the many wise quotes by Eli Goldrat: Technology can bring benefits if, and only if, it diminishes a limitation. This insight has significant implications on our work as architects, as a lot of our assumptions and heuristics are shaped by constraints. Past constraints are baked into existing systems, making transformation difficult. To make things less depressing, humor is injected into situations, such as the business asking for double the requirements in hopes of getting what they need. Architects need to watch out for past constraints that no longer apply. Take the example of cloud computing being pitched as a utility, where building your own is nonsensical, but with the rise of solar power, we all have our own power station nowadays. These are just some of the challenges faced in the ever-evolving world of architecture.
