AI chatbots like ChatGPT have been feared for the possibility of students using them to cheat on assignments. However, Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, argues that AI has the potential to positively transform education by providing every student with a personal tutor and every teacher with a teaching assistant. Khan explains that giving students one-to-one tutoring can lead to a two-standard deviation improvement, essentially taking an average student and making them exceptional. To accomplish this on a global scale, Khan has developed Khanmigo, an AI chatbot that can act as a tutor by asking students to explain their reasoning and giving them tips on where they went wrong. Additionally, Khanmigo can understand computer programming and provide suggestions to fix mistakes. It also understands the context of videos and is capable of answering students questions about why they need to learn a particular subject.
