Building Distributed GraphQL APIs - Michael Staib - NDC Oslo 2023

Duration : 01:04:46

Michael Stipe, author of the Hot Chocolate GraphQLibrary.net and member of the GraphQL Technical Steering Committee, discusses the growth and importance of GraphQL in a recent talk on distributed GraphQL. He begins by explaining why Facebook created GraphQL in 2012 to solve problems with the performance of their mobile application, which was built with REST technology and HTML5. Stipe argues that GraphQL is becoming increasingly vital in modern software development ecosystems due to its ability to tailor specific backends for individual frontends, meaning the amount of data being fetched is more explicit and tailored for each device type. The recent Gartner report suggests that the number of enterprises using GraphQL is expected to grow from 10 percent in 2021 to 50 percent in 2025.
